Emily Perez, a native of Los Angeles, California
During my pursuit for happiness I discovered my passion for photography in my later years and started to focus my life towards being more creativity ...as a painter, as an artist, as a writer, as a photographer and as a director.
My family has been involved in the fashion industry for just about half a century and even though I promised never to get into the family business as a kid I had no choice but still be involved day in and day out thru my parents and siblings.
Now as an adult and as a photographer I have been able to tap into this part of my family history and use this knowledge towards my fashion photography with success and enthusiasm.
I was born and raised in Los Angeles. Started out in the film business during my junior year in HS and co-directed an after school special which aired on ABC during my senior year.
I was granted a scholarship to Cal Arts (California Institute of the Arts) where I studied film and video with the hopes of becoming a successful director. I finished my education at UCLA. Yes I am a proud Bruin.
In 1994 I was accepted to join IFP where I was to be joined with known directors to mentor under for a year. During this time I mentored under Tamra Davis (dir to Billy Madison, Guncrazy, CB4, Half Baked and many many music videos), Richard Linklater (dir to Dazed and Confused), Robert Rodriguez (dir to El Mariachi) and mostly on paper Allison Anders (LOL) I still remain friends with some of these mentors turned friends which made a huge impact on my life choices.
As a teen I entered many film and video competitions earning many awards and recognitions by Sony Corp of America, Have been mentioned and featured on Premiere Magazine, Variety, Hollywood Reporter to name a few. My work toured thru galleries around the world. You can still find my work at the Los Angeles Public Library. I spent 12 years in the film industry working my way up to producer where I produced many many commercial spots and music videos, and my share of short films as well.
Currently, I reside in West Los Angeles in a very quiet but active neighborhood and with us my parents who have been retired for almost a decade.
