~.~Patty Smyth & Scandal
"We are excited to be a part of this fantastic event. The problem ofhunger especially with children and seniors is growing in our country. Icommend all the musicians, community leaders and friends that are helpingmake Hungerstock a huge success."
Video "Goodbye to You"
Patty Smyth, both with her hit band Scandal and as a solo artist, has always been, at heart, a rock and roll chick, and thatís no truer today for the mother of six, now back on the road and raring to play for fans new and old. If Smyth did nothing but marry New York punk poet Richard Hell (with whom she had her oldest daughter Ruby), then noted tennis punk and commentator John McEnroe (who had three kids of his own and then two more with Patty), that would be amazing enough, but sheís also earned both Oscar and Grammy nominations, recorded a series of hit singles and albums and enjoyed a successful reunion on VH1ís Bands Reunited series. As for her current revival, Patty suggests: "I donít play to a pre-recorded track or have 15 dancers on-stage. There are no smoke and mirrors. We feel that people are yearning for music thatís real. Itís just these four guys and I, out there seriously kicking some ass and having fun. Weíre so tight, if I fell down a flight of stairs, they would follow me and weíd all land on our feet. I donít have to think of anything else when Iím performing. For that hour, I can step out of my life. Itís like flying. I feel like Iím at the top of my game, and totally in my element. Itís an unbelievable joy."
"I'm happy to be involved with Hungerstock because an alarming amount of people face poverty and hunger in this country everyday. I am grateful to be a part of this event since it contributes to an often overlooked cause."
Video "Black and Gold"
"Damn, that white boy can sing!" Chaka Khan, circa 1994 There arenít many artists able to elevate themselves from the confines of musicianship and into the consciousness of popular culture. There are few that are as creatively talented as they are musically, Sam Sparro is one of the few. As inspired by Jeremy Scott and Gareth Pugh as he is by SWV and Hot Ch!p, the man is utterly engaging. Firstly thereís the voice; a big and beautiful scaleĖdefying vocal that dips from bold and beautiful to low, sultry and slow. This guy has serious soul. Sam has also more than mastered the art of melody and knows a killer chorus when he hears one. Just listen to the sublime Grammy Nominated single ĎBlack and Goldí to see for yourself. Armed with a pen that is both poetic and perceptive, ĎBlack and Goldí is credible, cuttingĖedge even, yet appeals to the popular. "I thought no one would get me. But they did. It was such a surprise," says the man himself about praise from the likes of Mark Ronson, Pete Tong, Annie Mac, Jo Whiley, Zane Lowe and thousands of MySpace fans and bloggers. Theyíre all drawn to the same thing; a sound that is as distinctive as it is unusual. Blending a host of influences from all ages and genres, Sam has managed to create something that is somehow his own. To describe the sound as simply electrofunksoulpop just wouldnít quite be doing him justice.

"As a NJ native I am very excited to be performing at Hungerstock. We are joining forces with Food Bank of South Jersey and all of you out there to help raise money and awareness about a major crisis in this country and around the world. Hunger is unacceptable - No person or family should go hungry- None!!- Please join us on October 1st and do what you can to help! "
Videoís "Ocean Avenue"
Christine Martucci is renowned for her soulful tenacity, kind-hearted interaction and emotional songwriting, pulling heart strings and opening minds all across the country. Raised in a musical family, Christine has music in her soul. She has her own grass-roots following dubbing themselves the "Tucci Train". Martucci's bunch literally made it possible for her to outdraw headlining national acts by showing up in droves to cheer her on and support her newest projects. Asbury Park, NJ is Christine's home base. Touring the country is her dream, and she is living her dream every day!"Christine Martucci sets a high standard for her music right in the beginning and carries it right on through the rest of the CD. To say that Christine Martucci connects personally with her listening audience is an understatement. In both her live performances and on her CD (I've had the privilege of hearing Ms. Martucci live as well as on the disc), she surrenders herself to her listeners, and relinquishes some degree of control to her loyal rock subjects. Yet at the same time, she also dominates that audience with her music."- Jedstar"- Staff Writer "After meeting and listening to Christine Martucci's eclectic CD "I'm All In," I wondered why a show like American Idol hadn't discovered this young lady. As I got to know Christine a little better, I realized she has so much more to offer than the pre-packaged singers that are paraded weekly on music reality shows. With a solid foundation in blues, R&B and hard rock vocal acrobatics, Christine can electrify, wail and serenade with the best of them. "Christine Martucci's sophisticated musical taste goes way beyond the niche marketing that far too many artists are forced to operate out of. Only a musical artist of her immense talent and vision would dare do a musical about the great iconoclast Janis Joplin. Although musicals about Janis Joplin have been done before - a few years ago a critically-acclaimed version ran Off-Broadway - not until Martucci's "Breakfast with Janis" do we experience Janis Joplin as confidant, sage and late-night carousing buddy.-William Gooch Stage and Cinema

"I'm honored to play such an event as "Hungerstock". We need to raise the awareness that people here in our country are not able to feed their children, and many nights go to bed hungry. This is an important event and I'd love to see more of these around the country. It makes you feel good to be a part of such a well needed cause".
Video - "Carolina"

Jill has toured and shared stages with... India Arie, Shawn Colvin, David Wilcox, Michael Hedges, Phoebe Snow, Richard Thompson, Richard Thompson, Little Feat, and many others. "Itís hard to say which is better-the song or the way Jill Knight sings it." Performing Songwriter vol. 6 ..35 "Few songwriters seem to have the self-assurance that this singer possesses... Knight approaches her music with an unadorned intensity, her songs pack an emotional punch rich in the details of everyday experiences... this is first rate, high quality music" Dirty Linen ..80 "With a voice that crests and tumbles like a waterfall, Knight is as elemental as the wind." "I am happy and proud to be part of an organization that is giving back to those in need.Hunger is a huge problem with our children and the elderly. I would like to commend all of thecommunity leaders, friends and musicians involved in Hungerstock 2011, may this event be a huge success!"
- Dee Brown
A common thread among most successful Musical artists is that the inspiration to become great arrived at a young age, and the early history of rhythm and blues guitarist Demitris Edwards Brown was no different. Growing up in Detroit, MI, Brown, the youngest of three children, was exposed to the smooth sounds of jazz as he listened to the legendary recordings of his fatherís favorite artists; Miles Davis, Thelonius Monk, Charles Mingus, Les McCann, Cannonball Adderly, King Pleasure and Charles Christian. When jazz albums werenít spinning under the familyís turn-table needle, the popular tunes from Motown would resonate from the speakers as Brownís mother would lay down music from The Four Tops, The Miracles, The Jackson 5 and James Brown. Thus, Brownís overall musical aptitude would broaden to unlimited heights. A defining moment in Brownís musical career occurred as early as elementary school when a classmate demonstrated an ability to play back a song heard on the radio with his guitar. Brown, fascinated and inspired, would eventually receive his first guitar as a Christmas present from his grandmother, and immediately took lessons, hoping to become the next B.B. King. By the time Brown was in high school, he was a polished artist, and formed the group Foreplay. After earning a solid reputation while playing at venues in Detroit, Foreplay drew the attention of producer Quincy Jones, who offered the group a record deal, but Brown declined because of a professional difference of opinion of how the groupís image would be projected by the public.

~.~Andy Branigan / Driven to Clarity
"As soon as I heard what cause this was for and who was running the show, I said I'm In!"
- Andy Branigan
Live at SellersvilleBio:
In the early summer of 2011 and the guys decided that their new music deserved to be heard. Now named Driven to Clarity, the duo began performing. After the very first open mic in Frederick, MD the guys were booked for several showcases at the Waterfront Hotel in Baltimore City in the Fells Point area. More and more, as Andy and Dave played throughout MD, they heard similar statements from listeners: "You guys shouldn't play covers; play your originals because we like them better." With all the positive feedback, the guys knew they were heading in the right direction.
The newly formed duo is thrilled to announce that they were asked to play during Hungerstock 2011, a great cause to fight hunger scheduled on Oct 1 2011 and a showcase in the fall for Breast Cancer at the Hard Rock Cafe in DC. Andy and Dave are eager to share their music with the world and promise not to disappoint.
"It's heartbreaking to think of these parents who afford the things their kids need - of course i'd do anything i can to help"
- Nicole Kerrigan
I LIKE DEM BOYSBio:
Taking secret lessons around the corner of her South Philly home with another Grammy Award Winner, Anitta Cloud, Nicole shocked even her friends with her talent. As we chatted about her beginnings, she let me in on the reason she kept her voice such a secret ďI wanted to wait until I had everything perfectĒ she said. Inspired by Lady GaGa, and Adele, Nicole doesnít want to be just another female Dance Music singer who fizzles out before they got started, she taking her talents all over the globe. Her first show at Top Dog a few days ago began that journey. Admittedly nervous with excitement, Nicole was happy to share what she loves doing with her family and fans. With her single, ďI Like Dem BoyzĒ dropping this Fall, and a performance on October 1st at Campbells Field for the Hungerstock Concert, the next few months will be big for Nicole.
